These particular cards will offer free point-of-sale transactions, free cash withdrawals at thousands of designated ATM machines across the country, and free cash back in participating stores, although charges will be made in some circumstances, such as using an off network ATM. However, it is worth researching the various other prepaid cards on the market, especially if you intend to keep the account after using your tax refund, as different cards offer a wide range of rates, offers, and even rewards. The treasury say that this prepaid debit card pilot scheme will offer a faster and more convenient way to receive tax refunds. They also say that a debit card direct deposit is safer and more secure than issuing paper checks.
