Columbus Bank & Trust Company
The Columbus Bank & Trust Company was founded in 1888 by a group of stockholders headed by G. Gunby Jordan. Before its establishment as the Columbus Savings Company, this group had earlier established the Third National Bank operating as a commercial bank. In 1890, Columbus Savings Bank had acquired the powers of a trust before changing its name to Columbus Savings and Trust Company. Citing changing banking laws as a result of the Federal Reserve act, the stockholders voted to perform a merger between the Third National Bank and Columbus Bank and Trust Company. The new company was to retain the same name while performing duties of both companies. CB & T is regarded as being one of the first financial institutions in its niche to offer Internet Banking Services allowing customers conduct online bill payment, account balance checking and numerous other transactions 24 hours a day. Till this day, it continues to provide friendly banking services to its customers in Columbus and surrounding counties.
